February 2021 – It’s that age-old question – which fast-food fish sandwich is the best of them all? Most quick-service restaurant chains offer a fish option, but there are some newcomers to the field and LA Times food columnists Jenn Harris, Ben Mims, and Lucas Kwan Peterson set out recently to decide once and for all which fast-food fish sandwich should be in your next take-out order.

The contest pitted the legendary McDonald’s Filet-o-Fish against the Wendy’s Crispy Panko Fish sandwich, the Fish Sandwich from Jack in the Box, the Big Fish Sandwich from Burger King and newcomer Popeyes Cajun Flounder Sandwich.

The judges were entertaining, honest and at times brutal.  You can view the video of them tasting and evaluating all of the sandwiches here.  Spoiler alert:  The new Popeye’s Cajun Flounder Sandwich made with Alaska flounder caught by Groundfish Forum members was the favorite of two of the judges and a close runner-up for the third judge.  Move over Filet-o-fish!
